Happy New Year!!!

We spent an absolutely beautiful New Year's day doing our favorite thing, enjoying nature and playing at the dog park.  I had my camera on hand (of course) and snapped some great pics of the kids and the puppy.  Be prepared, excessive cuteness ahead!!!!!!

How cute is this little girl??  I love how the wind is ruffling her hair and the sun is highlighting the two of them.

Sitting on a log over the creek, they actually got the puppy to walk across the log.

Ginseng loves to lay between CJ's feet at the dog park, he'll run out occasionally to bark and play and then right back to safety.  He's so very fierce!

A boy and his dog exploring.  Love, love, love it.

On the way home, worn out from a long walk and a lot of puppy play.

Refocused or redirected---Not really sure which???

I've finished the final review that I needed to do for TOS Crew and I'm moving on.  I'm not sure where I'm moving to, not sure what my focus should be.  I started this blog to share my homeschooling journey and to chronicle our days.  Koty is my only homeschooled child now and he works very independently of me.  I'm not saying he doesn't need me, but he kinda doesn't need me; he's very self-motivated.  So, honestly there isn't much to blog about there.

I have also very much used this blog to share my photography, not sure if there is much of an audience for that; but I'm not sure that I care.  I love to share my pics with family and friends and this is kind of my only outlet for that.

Another direction that I've been considering but haven't quite wrapped my mind around yet is my health and a lifestyle/diet change.  I have been having multiple health problems surrounding my gastrointestinal system, they can't seem to figure out what is wrong but the prevailing theory is Pancreatitis and Gastritis.  My liver functions are a little wonky and they are retesting those but don't seem to have a plan other than to encourage me to quit drinking and to stop taking Tylenol products.  I honestly don't drink, never have; and Tylenol is not high on my list of pain relievers.  I've been thinking about looking into holistic methods of treating Pancreatitis and IBS and sharing those plans here.

As I type this, I'm thinking that I'll share it all.  Like it or hate it, this is me.  I have a very full, sometimes boring, sometimes exciting life and I love to share it through photos.  I bake for my families restaurants and would love to share any recipes and ideas that I have to improve my health.  I homeschool one 14 yr. old crazy man and help two elementary students through their homework and would love to share their triumphs and successes with y'all.  I have a high school student who is growing into an awesome young man, he's a 2nd degree black belt, studying Brazilian Ju Jitsu  and just got accepted onto the wrestling team; sharing him with y'all is both a joy and a pleasure.

So, I guess that's it.  I don't really have a focus or a direction.  I'm going to share it all and hope that my family continues to share our daily lives through this blog.  I promise to blog more and I promise to share more about our day to day.

Fishin' with Greatpa!

We were able to get out yesterday and do some catch and release fishing with Greatpa.  The kids had such a great time and Sissy was the big fisherman of the day, catching 15+ fish.  I enjoyed wandering around and snapping photos of all the fisherman and nature.  Here are just a few photos of our very fun day.

We're so grateful to have these fun days with Greatpa, the kids are already planning the next trip.

Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood!

(70/365)
We had an unbelievably gorgeous day around here, so we took advantage and headed over to the nature trails to wander around.  My kids have never met a creek they didn't want to explore, so I let everyone take off their shoes and wade around.  The water was icy cold but that didn't stop them, they had a great time and played for over an hour.  We really needed the fresh air and sunshine, we've been battling strep and various cold symptoms for weeks.  Yes, I know, playing in cold water probably didn't help.  Oh well, at least we all had a good time.

Sissy spent most of her time, jumping from rock to rock, she was having so much fun, she was a joy to watch and marvel at her energy.

I spent most of my time playing with my camera and trying different angles and settings.  I had a doctors appt. this morning to attempt to figure out why I'm having chest pains, fatigue, blah, blah, blah; it was nice to forget how icky I've been feeling and just soak up some sunshine and enjoy my kids utter joy at getting muddy and wet.  We're simple people at heart!
This final pic has nothing to do with anything, it's just a pic of my beautiful baby.  She's my only girl and only leftie.  Every time I watch her draw and write, it brings back memories of my Grandma.  Sissy doesn't particularly look like her but Grandma was left handed, for some reason sometimes it just makes my heart ache.  Grandma died when I was 7 months pregnant with my oldest, she never met any of my children, but when I watch my little leftie I know she's up there watching over us.

Project 365/41

The kids have developed a new passion, they are in love with "Go Fish!"  They ask to play it all the time.  Upside, I can bribe them to finish their school work by saying we'll play after they are finished.  Yes, I admit, I'm not above bribing my kids!!!
Their other new passion is homemade blueberry and banana muffins, their dad is diabetic so I have to make them with Splenda, but they really don't seem to notice the difference.

Project 365/35-37

We're experiencing a short warm-up around here, in preparation of another storm this weekend.  There is definitely hope that it will miss us, but they are talking about 6+" of more snow on Tuesday. UGH!!  I usually love winter, but I think I may be getting old; I'm finding myself in a bit of a funk.  Difficulty focusing, irritability, depression; I'm experiencing them all.  Who knows, it could be the hysterectomy and not the weather at all; but I'm going to blame winter and move on!

Now, on to the subject of a lot of my irritability.  Is it frustrating for anyone else to cook for your family and then have the majority complain that they don't like it.  I am not in love with cooking, really, I'm not!  I have developed some ability over the last couple of decades, but not a love affair.  It frustrates me to no end to have tons of leftovers that no one will eat.  Case in point, I make home made chicken noodle soup for my family frequently.  Couple of weeks ago, I was in a hurry and bought some of the freezer egg noodles to use in my soup instead of making my own.  They noticed!! How could they notice??  None of them went back for seconds (except for the ever loyal and hungry hubby), I asked what was up and they said they weren't sure but something was wrong with the noodles and they just didn't like it.  Seriously!?  Suffice it to say, I don't buy freezer noodles anymore, ever.

I have learned over the last 16 years to "keep it simple, stupid!" when it comes to cooking for my family, go with what I know and don't prepare too much, leftovers never seem to leave.  I can't really complain about the leftovers, I personally don't eat much of anything reheated, soup and stew are the exceptions.  How do other families deal with this, I hate short order cooking because someone is being difficult and refusing to eat what I made, but struggle in letting them go without.  I am really struggling with this right now, seems shallow, but it is wearing on me.

The other thing wearing me out is the video games and tech.  Yeah, I know, I'm typing this on a computer.  I'm a hypocrite, sue me!  The kids got a PS3 for Christmas, they play it incessantly, to the point of not getting school work and chores done.  I'm seriously considering a tech hiatus for the kids, they are becoming difficult and contrary.

On a different note, something that I am having fun with is learning more about my camera and photography in general.  The next to pics were taken with aperture priority, a spot focus and the second I adjusted the white balance. (Didn't I sound all official there???)

The spot focus is on the left hand side of the pic, where the pile of noodles, flat noodles and rolling pin all meet.  The white balance adjustment made the second pic look exactly like what I was seeing with the naked eye.  I really like how it turned out.
(35/365)

This one I used the scene settings on my camera and set it for snow, it automatically adjusted the white balance and probably a bunch of other stuff that I haven't figured out yet.

20-21/365

Still enjoying tons of snow around here.  It's stayed pretty cold, so I don't think the snow is going anywhere and we're expecting more on Sunday.  I love it, but it kind of hurts the pocket book.  I wait tables in my family's restaurant, when it's snowy people tend to stay home, no tables = no tips.  I go from making $150-$200 a shift to making around $100, we make it work but it certainly hurts.  Oh well, winter only lasts 3-4 months thank goodness.

Here's a few pictures that I snapped after our most recent snow storm.  This little guy seems to live in and around this tree in our back yard.  He is so beautiful and showy against the snow.
 (20/365)
I just love this evergreen out back, the snow looks like frosting and against that blue sky it was beautiful.

Finally, Ry and Koty played for hours out in the snow.  They worked hard to make tunnels through the snow, the first couple collapsed, but they got this one to hold.  Great job, guys!
