Reluctant Reader Solution by Kid Scoop-TOS Review

Photobucket

As a member of the TOS Review Crew, I received an awesome new product that helps you encourage your child to read and write, all while having a great time.  The Reluctant Reader Solution by Kid Scoop, created by Vicki Whiting, offers a 2-part program that helps you encourage and enable your child to engage with reading material.
Photobucket
Part One includes a download of a full years supply of worksheets, divided into topics with approx. 6 pages per topic.  From holidays to sports, animals to food, the Reluctant Reader solution has topics to meet all kids interests.  As the teacher you have two ways to use these; using the chronological calendar, holiday's and special events will be highlighted; using themes, you can pick and choose themes that complement you studies.

Packed with games, writing prompts and encouragement to read outside materials, each of these packets are stand alone studies.  We loved them, they are fun and engaging.  We used random themes rather than chronologically, but I can definitely see the benefit of both ways.  Head over here to download a sample topic to get a great idea of what is offered.  The great part about this is that once you download its yours to continue to use with as many students as you have.

Part 2 of the RR Solution is the down-loadable magazine.  When you buy the RR you receive a 12-month subscription to the Kidscoop news, a full color online magazine.  You can either allow your child to read it online or print off the magazine to use in quiet time or as an incentive to finish work on time.  Once again, each of these can be downloaded and saved for later, even when you don't have internet access.  The audio only works online though, but for my reluctant reader, this really didn't seem to matter.

Now, onto the specifics.  The Reluctant Reader solution, both parts, costs $97.  I personally didn't find this cost prohibitive, simply because I see the ability to download and reuse with multiple students as a huge bonus!  The other thing that makes it worth it is the 100% money back guarantee that the site offers.  Not happy, refund; don't see a difference, refund; doesn't work for your particular student, refund!  You really can't go wrong when you order this product, you have a 365 day, 100% reason to give it a try; you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Now, my family is weird  unique.  Things that work for us, might not work for others; don't just count on this family's opinion.  Head over here to see how other crew member's and their unique families put Kid Scoop and the Reluctant Reader Solution to the test.

Project 365/48

If you follow me at all, you know that our family has a love affair with the outdoors. We go to the zoo and our local nature centers often....I mean a LOT! We love every second of it and will go in any type of weather. Today was one of those rare 70 degree days, that gives you a taste of Spring, right before it rips the carpet out from under you.  We desperately needed to get some sun,  I especially needed some fresh air.

Burr Oaks Nature Center

Even though it was cloudy and windy we decided to head over to the Conservation center to walk around and play for awhile.  The whole area is going through a meltdown, the creeks were running, the moss was rich and green.  We had such a wonderful time wandering around and watching for animals or birds.  We never saw any, turns out that a loud 7 year old is a deterrent to actually seeing any wildlife.  Who knew???

5QFriday

1. Would you rather be on ABC's Extreme Home MakeOver or TLC's What not to Wear?

Well, since we just moved out of our house into a townhome, I'll probably have to say WNTW.  I am just not that interested in what I wear, never have been, so my closet would probably be tragic to a fashionista.  It would be exciting to have fun clothes, but someone else would definitely have to pick them out.

2. Do you have any tattoos?

No, but I've always wanted one.  Fortunately or unfortunately, as I get older I see the gift of not having gotten one.  Skin sags, not pretty!!

3. Do you tell your kids about things you did growing up?

As they become older, yes, if they ask I tell them.  If my kids can learn from the choices I made, or if they can feel smarter by not being as stupid as I was; all the better.

4. If the traffic signal turns yellow, do you stop or speed up?

I would have to say speed up, everytime!  I also have to clarify that I have a 16 year old boy that I am demanding do nothing of the kind, as I sail through the light.  Definitely a 'do as I say, not as I do' kind of moment.

5. What's your preference: chocolate or chips?

This is why I love trail mixes, I want sweet and salty at the same time.  But, barring that, chocolate first, then the chips.  Well, maybe the salty first (I love salt) and then the chocolate.  Do I really have to decide?

Want to participate in 5QF, head over here and get going!

The kids have developed a new passion, they are in love with "Go Fish!"  They ask to play it all the time.  Upside, I can bribe them to finish their school work by saying we'll play after they are finished.  Yes, I admit, I'm not above bribing my kids!!!
Their other new passion is homemade blueberry and banana muffins, their dad is diabetic so I have to make them with Splenda, but they really don't seem to notice the difference.

Project 365/38-39

We decided to head out to the zoo yesterday.  Yes, I know it's winter, my kids don't care.  They had heard that our new polar bear, Nikita, was being very active and they had to go see for themselves.  I can count on one hand the number of people, other than us, that we saw wandering around.  Oh well, we had fun and I got some great pics.
We wandered around a lot of the indoor places, Discovery Barn, Tropics and of course the Polar Bear overlook.  The animals were real active and interacted with the kids, it's hard to see but the monkey was being a mimic and 'playing' with Sissy.

I'm not sure what kind of flower this is but it was growing in the tropics and was absolutely gorgeous.  Sissy wanted one, it's pink, 'nuff said!

Daddy helping Sissy do a rubbing in the Tropics building, aren't their hands beautiful together.  I love how big his hands are and how gentle he is capable of being.
These Squirrel Monkeys(I think?)  were so excited to see people, they kept jumping at the glass and interacting with Chris and the kids.  Aren't the hands on this animal cool, they look like miniature human hands.

Finally, out for a walk before another dusting of snow.  Winter, I love you but you really need to GO!
