365 Project-6/2012
On the puppy walk today I came across this bathtub in the woods. I loved how it looked so worn and completely out of place. Near the tub were all these rocks covered in beautifully verdant moss, the ground was very wet with what looked like an underground stream.

Heat wave!
After several days of excessive heat warnings, the temps finally broke a bit and allowed us to get outside. We headed over to wander the trails at the nature center, still a lil' hot for the zoo.
Sissy sighted this caterpillar and then nearby we found a whole bunch more, they look kind of like scrub brushes. Sis really liked the orange strip down his back!
Everywhere we looked we saw Dragonflies, they were flitting all around the streams and trails. I don't have a macro lens or really any lens, my camera is pretty much a super glorified point and shoot. I am really working on the manual settings though, it's definitely a learning process.
The kids love playing in the stream and were daring each other to walk over this log without falling in.

Another Day.....another Nature center
If you haven't figured it out yet, we love our nature centers. We have multiple nature centers, the zoo, conservation areas out the wazoo and an incredible park system. We could head out every day for a month and not visit the same place twice, but we have our favorites. This one is near our old house and the zoo, we love their trails and paths.

Project 365/74
From snow yesterday, to sunny and 50 today, Missouri weather is nothing if not interesting. We went over to a local trail system to wander around and play. There is this great railroad bridge, built in 1900, still in use by Kansas City Southern RR. It is so beautiful and has so much history we just had to get some pictures.

Burr Oaks Nature Center
Even though it was cloudy and windy we decided to head over to the Conservation center to walk around and play for awhile. The whole area is going through a meltdown, the creeks were running, the moss was rich and green. We had such a wonderful time wandering around and watching for animals or birds. We never saw any, turns out that a loud 7 year old is a deterrent to actually seeing any wildlife. Who knew???

Fox Hollow Trail
I have been drawn to the, Outdoor Hour Challenge, since I first found myself reading blogs. We are taking up the challenge. All four kids were more than ready to get back to our walks, to be able to call them school, even better. We have been geocachers for a couple of years now, so we will be combining our preferred outdoor activity with a school subject and killing to birds with one stone. Here are pictures from our first challenge. I'll take pictures from the boys notebooks when they finish their drawings. Bethany Falls limestone rocks, very common here in Missouri. A raccoon that was lying out in a patch of sunshine, totally oblivious to everyone on the paths. Signs of Spring, I just love the budding of trees and flowers this time of year.
